[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "*incoming message chime/beep/ringtone*"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "Yellow?"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: Dr. Doppler speaks in German. As if it were any surprise. "< Good evening. >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "<Good evening, Sigmund. Is there anything I can help you with?>"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "< I think I am making some progress....but... >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "<But? You don't sound very sure.>"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "< I am wondering...wondering if the new Virus is not ultimately a good thing. >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "<What?!>"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "< My children are coming home at last...I'm not sure whether I like what they have become...but they are no longer in the UN's control. >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "< I don't know why I did not think of it this way before...like a small whisper in the back of my mind... >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "<... Oh, Sigmund. You do know cyborgs can get this virus as well, correct? Are you sure you're alright? This is not good! Yes, they are not under the UN's control, but ... but Repliforce has been disbanded at the moment if I recall correctly. They aren't to begin with! Those that are still remain so under their own choice. It may not be one you agree with but will you take that from them?>"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: Dr. Doppler sighs. "< I know this. Overclock I know has succumbed. I have no true way to test myself...but....well, it was only a matter of time, hm? *pause* Yes, Repliforce is finally disbanded. Now if only...if only Octavius would listen to me and stand aside. The UN has thrown him away. There is no reason...no reason at all for him to fight their battles any longer. >
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "< ... He is with us. For the moment. If you like, Sigmund, I could test you for the virus. You're more complex a cyborg than the woman we tested the cure on but the process is similar. I could even give you the cure we have, even if it only works in the early stages.>"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: Dr. Doppler chuckles softly. "< Such compassion...yes, I know Thomas was rebuilding him. Will he be a Hunter now? >
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "< That is his decision. >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "< We're all rebuilding him. He's a big boy to work on alone. >"
[Radio: (D) Public] Dust Man transmits, "Killed him, Bass?"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "< True, true...it took twelve engineers and their assistants to assemble him the first time. >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: Dr. Doppler is silent for a long moment. "<....best we find out the truth, hm? >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "< Yes. Eurasia? Or is there somewhere else you would feel more comfortable.. That is within reason of course. >"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: Dr. Doppler chuckles. "< I hardly expected an invitation to that ship of yours. Eurasia is safer, I think. The San Angelines may have changed their opinion of me by now. >"
Eurasia - Skydeck
Nestled at the very top of Eurasia, this park is the small secret of Eurasia, and considered by many the most beautiful place on the station. Massive transparisteel windows cover this area, and grass and trees are maintained by a dedicated gardening staff. Though a few restaurants and tourist destinations line the edge of this park, it sees little use, and is a good place to come to be alone. Even the security here seems relaxed, and there is virtually no problem with any crime here. Mechanimals and birds are the only things that actually live here, but it's not unusual for some people to remain for hours, just watching the beauty of space from the many grassy hills that dot this pinnacle of the mighty station.
Castle In the Sky
Lift Down <LD> leads to Eurasia - Empire Central Square.
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission: Dr. Matthews says, "<I'll be there in a moment. I'm gathering my equipment.>"
[Radio] Tightbeam radio transmission to Dr. Matthews: You say, "< Of course. I will be there when I can....at least they have left Eisensturm as my minder. >"
Dr. Matthews arrives from the Empire Central Square.
Dr. Matthews has arrived.
Dr. Matthews arrives first due to her haste, though she really did dislike leaving the current matter unsettled. She carries a black case with her of the sort used for carrying portable machinery. The first park bench she finds she sets it upon to begin the arrangements for Doppler's arrival.
One may wonder how a fifty-something year old man in middling physical health can escape from his escorts. Doppler has his ways. The fact that Eisensturm accompanies him mollifies most of his children in that regard.
The lift doors open to let Doppler out some twenty minutes after Dr. Matthew's arrival, the aforementioned canine following alongside him. While he still uses a cane to keep his steps steady, he does no lean as heavily against it as he did at their last meeting. As soon as he sees her, he moves in her direction.
Dr. Matthews has taken up to pacing around nervously while waiting. She hadn't told the others what she was doing--Not even Hiryu. If something *were* to happen she would be on her own, save for Eurasia's security forces. They were good, but not always present. Turning in her pacing she spots Doppler and gives a firm nod towards his approach as she heads back to the scanner she'd set up. "<Ah, good. You made it away alright I see.>"
"< They worry too much, >" Doppler replies. He has his own suspicions about other reasons why he's being watched so closely, but does not voice them. He stops a few paces from her and the bench. "< Let us be quick about it. We both know the risks. >"
[Radio: (D) Public] Reporto transmits, "Whatever happened with the Interpol investigation into the attempted assassination of McLaren?"
[Radio: (D) Public] Cut Man transmits, "Covered up by mass Maverick infection I bet."
[Radio: (D) Public] Reporto transmits, "Mister Cut Man, do you mean you believe Mavericks were behind the attack?"
[Radio: (D) Public] Cut Man transmits, "I dunno. Either them or Neo Arcadia."
[Radio: (D) Public] Burner Man transmits, "I think it was the Mexicans."
[Radio: (D) Public] Cut Man transmits, "Or that other guy who was behind the disbanding of Repliforce."
[Radio: (D) Public] Dr. Doppler transmits, "It was not us."
[Radio: (D) Public] Gate transmits, "What would Neo Arcadia stand to gain from the assassination?"
[Radio: (D) Public] Cut Man transmits, "You ask 'em that."
[Radio: (D) Public] Burner Man transmits, "Why do you need to gain anything to kill someone?"
Dr. Matthews pauses in her preparations to look at Doppler with a wan smile. Nothing is said in return to that remark, she merely nods. Her attention shifts back down to the scanner as she waves a hand towards the empty portion of the bench. "<Sit. This takes a moment. This is what we use to take pictures of DNA Souls... It works on cyborgs as well, by mapping out the electrical currents used by their implants. In your case it will likely work more akin to a full reploid. If there are any affected areas it will show.>" A button is flicked causing light to flare as a small holo-emitter springs to life in favor of using a bulky, heavier monitor screen.
[Radio: (D) Public] Techno transmits, "It's a pity that she died. She was a nice lady."
Dr. Doppler gestures feebly with his right hand at his companion, and Eisensturm obediently lies down in the grass. He spares a moment to look over the equipment before sitting down. The cane is hooked over the armrest, out of the way. "< Very well. You may also want to check her, >" he says, with a brief gesture to the dog. "< I know it's running rampant among our drones. >"
Dr. Matthews glances towards the mechdog a moment, only to nod as well. "< If she does, it's likely very early stages. Drones do not have higher thought functions. They do not doubt, worry, or question their actions. I would have been attacked already. > She does nod however while lifting the scanner out towards Doppler to begin running it's processes. "< If either of you are... Given your particular situation, the cure would have to be administered daily. It's not a permanent fix. It merely gets rid of one case of infection at a time. > "
Contrary to his earlier claims, the scan shows that Doppler is all too human. In fact, he is not even a full-conversion cyborg. There is still some flesh and bone hidden among all the implants and synthskin. However, there are implants nestled directly against his brain, mostly along the back of the left hemisphere. No doubt Rigger can quickly puzzle out why. The scan also reveals that he is in the beginning stages of infection, including through the brain implants.
Dr. Matthews wasn't particularily surprised over where the infection was taking hold: It had done the same to Sarah Fairchild by attacking her neural implants at the base of her spine. It does, however, bode not well and makes the scientist frown in worry. "< It's there, >" She states simply while glancing up towards Doppler. "< That little voice, is probably it. >" Leaving him with that thought a moment she hits the 'refresh' button of sorts and turns to crouch and begin an examination of the mecha-dog as well. It would give him a few moments to think over the results.
Dr. Doppler does not seem at all surprised by the diagnosis. He has said himself it was only a matter of time. He sits there quietly, pensively, as she runs a scan on his companion. Eisensturm is likewise infected, and while it is one of the highest series of drones, it still is not sentient. "< Then we will simply have to find something better, >" he says.
"< Her as well. >" Rigger rises and shuts the equipment off as its purpose is fullfilled. Only once it's set back into its case does she lift out a small, pink data crystal to offer out towards Doppler. "< The cure. A copy of it at least. Take it. Perhaps you can master it so that it will be more effective. >"
Dr. Doppler raises his eyebrows at this. Clearly he was not expecting the cure to be handed directly to him. He reaches for his cane first, and uses it to lever himself to his feet once more. Only then does he reach out to take the datacrystal from her. "< What do you expect in return? >" he asks.
The question catches Rigger by surprise as much as her gesture to offer the cure to Doppler seems to have done for him. She blinks at him a moment as if that question weren't quite parsing. It may not be, given German wasn't her first language. She held her own though, even if she had an odd accent. "< ... I suppose it's a hold-over from my attempt at becoming a medical doctor. I want people to live. I don't play favors with that. >"
Dr. Doppler holds the crystal up to the light, as if looking through a prism. "< Even your enemies, hm? >" The question seems to be purely rhetorical. He tucks the gem into an inner pocket of his labcoat. "< If this works, I will let you know. If not...well. I will at least try to document its effects. >" He looks down at her for a moment, pausing before speaking again. "< Thank you, Julie. I am in your debt. >" Rare words from him. Rarer still that they are delivered to a human.
"< The hope is that one day we won't be enemies. This war will end, eventually. I just hope it's within my lifetime. >" Dr. Matthews closes up her case, takes a final look at Eisentsturm (sp?), and then nods to Doppler as she begins to head off. "< You're welcome. Good luck. >"
